Flagship dBTechnologies VIO L212 Line Array Hits Aussie Market

Monday, 29 July 2019
Marco Cantalu and Manuele Poli from dBTechnologies were back in town to sing the praises of their company’s products and vision. As demonstrated at the APAC launch in Bali last September, dBTechnologies has worked tirelessly to create an extremely capable line array system that pitches a premium offering to a market hungry for performance and value.

Tuesday 16th July saw NAS Solutions’ Australian launch of dBTechnologies’ flagship L212 line array. Among the A List crowd at the Carriageworks venue in Sydney’s inner west were production company operators, freelance FOH engineers, and various other delegates from the touring and rental world.

The VIO L212 offers impressive bang for buck. Every box is laden with digital technology, intuitive monitoring and control software, and handy features such as NFC to aid with speaker positioning, to name a few. As Marco says, “the transducer is just about the only analogue thing in it.”

However, VIO is more than a line source family. New to the range is the VIO X205 active point source loudspeaker. Two of these were used exclusively for the speakers’ presentations. With dual five-inch LF drivers and a single one-inch HF element, these loudspeakers’ impressive sound belie their svelte, compact form factor. Also within the range are a selection of subwoofers and the more compact arrays (L208 and L210) for smaller venues and fill purposes.

After a fittingly Italian lunch of freshly-fired pizza, delegates made their way back into the main presentation space to hear the star of the show in action  — the VIO L212.

The demo environment couldn’t have been more different to the L212’s APAC launch in Bali last year, which was effectively a green field site — clean as. Meanwhile, the Sydney launch was in the cavernous Bay 20 of Carriageworks with a never-ending RT60. No doubt the thought on most people’s minds was “if it sounds good in here, it’ll sound good anywhere”.

Following a detailed overview of the VIO family by Marco, the dual hangs started their engines. Listening tests began with a run of eclectic program material. Despite the extremely live room, VIO’s sonic footprint shone through with articulation and detail.

A talented eight-piece live band followed the tests, giving a solid work out for the system in itself. Both hangs of L212 cabinets effortlessly brought the band to life with the lively room providing extra excitement and envelopment. NAS Solutions’ own Dave Jacques helmed the mix with colleague Chris Braun taking care of monitors. Two rows of S218 subwoofers in end fire configuration happily burbled away giving more than sufficient grunt for the space.

The launch event was a great success. NAS is excited to present these premium products from dBTechnologies to the Australian market and even more excited to see where VIO is taken up in the market. More announcements on that will be sure to follow shortly.
